Palmer Home for Children of Columbus

Palmer Home for Children opened its doors in 1895 and has been providing a safe and nurturing environment for children ever since. The children in our care come to us for any number of reasons, but ultimately they all lack an adequate family structure. Many of the children who come through our doors harbor a past of abuse or neglect. By providing residential care on our campuses, we are able to receive these children in a spirit of love that reflects Christ.

We serve our children through our Whole Child Initiative. This program is comprised of four components: emotional healing, educational support, physical development, and spiritual growth. By addressing these four key areas, we are able to help the children overcome the trauma and pain of their past and provide a healthy foundation for them to move forward into successful adulthood.

Palmer Home has served over 130 children in the last year. Through our residential campus cottages, we are able to not only take in individual children, but sibling groups as well. This keeps brothers and sisters from being separated due to circumstances beyond their control. On our Columbus campus, we have the original orphanage building, which now houses administrative staff, six cottages, a basketball court, playground, barn, 10 horses, riding arena, gymnasium, swimming pool, plant nursery, and vegetable farm.

We built a second campus in Hernando in 2003. While we currently have three cottages and the capacity for 24 children, we are embarking on a capital campaign to expand this campus to serve 100 children.

In 2014, we welcomed Jonah’s Journey to our ministry. Founded in 2007, this organization provides Christian caregivers for children of incarcerated mothers or mothers unable to care for their children. Now that we have partnered together, Jonah’s Journey will be able to serve more children and mothers, as well as have the support and experience of our 119-year-old organization. We are thrilled for this partnership!

Palmer Home is privately funded and relies solely on gifts from generous individuals, churches, businesses, and organizations. We are blessed to have so many partners who believe in our mission and goals. We are constantly encouraged by the continual support!

Also, we are the benefiting charity of MSU Bulldog Bash. This outdoor concert is happening on October 3 and it’s free to attend! Check out their website for more information:
